TED Talks
Challenge
The organizers of the first TED AI conference in San Francisco wanted to set their event apart by leveraging the technologies to which this TED event was dedicated. At the same time they wanted to create an engaging experience that would bridge the gap between in-person and remote attendees. The challenge was to design a system that would allow YouTube chat participants to contribute meaningfully to the live after party through simple text prompts to control visuals at the gala. The system needed to handle thousands of concurrent chat messages while filtering for relevant prompts and generating appropriate visual content in real-time. Then integrate the visual output into audio-reactive, real-time rendering 3D worlds seemlessly.
Results
The implementation delivered exceptional results, transforming fan engagement and creating new revenue opportunities:
- Global Participation: Enabled worldwide audience engagement through simple YouTube chat integration
 - AI Innovation: Successfully demonstrated real-time AI content generation in a live conference setting
 - Unprecedented Engagement: Generated thousands of unique prompts and sparked massive audience interaction
 - Seamless Integration: Created a smooth experience that felt natural to both in-person and remote attendees

Solution
Volta developed a seamless integration between YouTube chat and live event visuals using the DALL-E API. Viewers could simply type "#Volta + Gen AI" along with their prompt into the chat, and the result would be dynamically integrated into the live event visuals. The system automatically filtered chat messages for the specific hashtag format, processed the prompts through AI generation, and seamlessly incorporated the results into the live visual experience, creating a truly interactive conference environment.
"The integration of YouTube chat with live AI-generated visuals created an unprecedented level of engagement. Our remote audience felt truly connected to the event in a way we've never experienced before."
